Portfolio

My name is Yang, Chu-Chun, and I always work as Childishme. I have majored in “Radio and Television Department” in National Chenchi University (NCCU) from 2004 to 2008 and have learned how to produce & edit films and animations. I like to draw; therefore, I am motivated to make illustration as my career after graduation.

Now, I am an illustrator by profession and I have a wide range of creation in graphic, illustration, web design, and animation. I have an interest in narratives leading my work to develop through various media from drawing into animation. I try to create my own stories and illustrations in different media. This portfolio is a collection of my recent works. Hope you enjoy the journey of my working process.

I created these two characters by acrylic on a canvas after the end of a relationship in 2008. I thought people have two-faced personalities. Some people looked fierce but had warm and sincere personalities; on the other hand, some looked genial but had sharp and unkind personalities. For these reasons, I created these characters by combining two different elements in each character with contrasting colours. A pink and soft rabbit had a sharp beak, and a crocodile had the dog’s expression.

I was trying to express that there is no need to judge people as to their character and no one should be hurt in any relationships. Although these pictures are still semi-finished works, I do like these two characters. I used the two characters in my first portfolio in 2010. Maybe I thought I am just like one of them.

Shanghai - A Self-Searching Journey

Shanghai is a city linking up old history with modern architecture. There are various features in this city. Shanghai is also a city filled with people. Sometimes, I feel that people who live in Shanghai are not that friendly. I sketch people who wear hats and bend their heads as they walk fast along the street. They don’t keep an eye on the traveler. The traveler is in a maze, and she doesn’t know where to go.

We want to visit cities around the world, and create our own music or illustrations with a serial story. This work is the first scene, and the subject is called “A Self-Searching Journey”.

Little Wild Campus

Since I usually create characters by imagination, I made a practice of sketching people trying to observe human expressions and human relationships. Those characters were my colleagues, teachers, and friends. I carefully observed their behaviors, personalities, and what they were interested in, and then I tried to sketch them on my own way. Through this practice, I discovered more modeling skills and would not be afraid of drawing details.

Dear Croco Man

This work was inspired by an animation from Japan, Doudoulong. There were a lot of unhappy things in the world, and people wanted to get rid of them sometimes. How were we out of touch with reality? Therefore, I created the Croco Man. The Croco Man was a kind of transportation taking people or animals to paradise.

When I created the characters in this work, I thought that people always had two-faced personalities. For this reason, I combined two different and conflicting elements in each character. A pink and soft rabbit had a sharp beak, a blunt penguin had a long and ingenious nose, and the Croco Man was combined a crocodile with a camel. He looked ferocious, but he had a propensity for tolerance.
